IGNOU Assignment Front Page: Free A4 Generator and a Field-by-Field Guide
The front page is the first thing your study centre and evaluator see. It tells them whose assignment this is, for which course and which session. Make yours in two minutes with the free generator below, and use the guide that follows to fill every field correctly.

What the front page actually does
An assignment passes through several hands. You hand it to the coordinator of your study centre (learner support centre). The centre has it evaluated, returns it to you, and sends the marks to the Student Evaluation Division at IGNOU, New Delhi. At every step, someone needs to match the sheets to the right student, course and session without reading your answers.
That is the front page’s only job, and it explains every rule about it: details must be complete, legible and identical to IGNOU’s records. A beautiful design adds nothing if the enrolment number has a wrong digit.
Every field, and where to find it
Most front pages carry the fields below. If your programme guide or assignment booklet gives its own format, follow that instead.
| Field | Where to find it | Common mistake |
|---|---|---|
| Enrolment number | Your IGNOU ID card or the student portal (Samarth) dashboard | A missing or swapped digit. Copy it from the ID card, don’t type it from memory. |
| Name | As printed on your ID card | Using a nickname or a different spelling from IGNOU’s records |
| Programme code | ID card or admission confirmation (for example BAG, BCOMG, MCOM) | Writing the full programme name and leaving out the code |
| Course code | Top of each assignment in your booklet (for example BCOC-131) | Putting several course codes on one front page |
| Course title | Assignment booklet or course block cover | Shortening it so much that it no longer matches the code |
| Assignment code | Printed on the assignment itself, under the course name | Making one up. Copy it character by character. |
| Session | The booklet’s validity line, matched to your admission or re-registration cycle | Writing the current month instead of the session you are submitting for |
| Study centre code | ID card or the student portal | Writing the regional centre code in this box |
| Regional centre | ID card or the student portal | Leaving it blank when the study centre code is unclear |
| Address, mobile, email | Your current details | An old phone number, so the centre cannot reach you if a page is missing |
| Date of submission | The day you hand it in | Writing a date after the last date of submission |
| Signature | Signed by you, by hand | Leaving it unsigned |
One front page per course
IGNOU booklets often bundle several courses together; the M.Com first-semester booklet, for instance, carries the assignments of all its courses in one file. Each course is still evaluated and marked on its own, so give each course its own set of answer sheets with its own front page. This is why the generator makes one page per course line.
Getting the session right
Assignments are valid for set admission cycles, and the booklet says which. The M.Com 2025 booklet is valid for students enrolled in January 2025 (up to June 2025) and July 2025 (up to December 2025). The BANS-183 booklet covers the July 2025 and January 2026 cycles, with different last dates for each.
- Find the validity lineIt is on the first or second page of the booklet.
- Match your cycleUse your admission or re-registration cycle, not the date you are writing.
- Write that sessionFor example “July 2026” or “January 2026”, the way the booklet words it.
If you missed the deadline for a session, the M.Com booklet tells students to submit the new assignment instead. Our last date guide tracks current deadlines.
Putting the assignment together
- Front page on topPrinted or handwritten, one per course.
- Answers in question orderNumber each answer exactly as the booklet does.
- Number your pagesRuled sheets with a page number box make this easy.
- Fasten securelyStaple or file the sheets so no page can fall out.
- Keep a copyIGNOU booklets advise keeping a photocopy of your assignments.
- Take the receiptCollect a receipt from the study centre and keep it until your marks appear on the grade card.
Many booklets, BANS-183 among them, state that assignments must be handwritten and submitted on time to be eligible for the term-end exam. For December 2026, IGNOU has also issued a notification on online submission through OAMS; check it on the announcements page for your programme. For answer layout, see our assignment pattern guide.

Mistakes that cause trouble
- Front page for the wrong session. Your answers may be for one booklet while the page names another session.
- Course and assignment codes that do not match. Check both against the same booklet page.
- One front page for several courses. Each course needs its own.
- Unreadable handwriting on the front page. If you write it by hand, use capital letters for codes and numbers.
- No contact details. If a page goes missing, the centre has no way to reach you.
- Losing the receipt. It is your only proof of submission. If it is lost, see our submission status guide.
Frequently asked questions
Is there one official IGNOU front page format?
IGNOU does not publish a single cover page used by every programme. Follow your programme guide or assignment booklet if it gives a format; otherwise include the fields listed above.
Can I print the front page instead of writing it by hand?
Assignments are generally handwritten, but a printed front page is widely used for identification. If your programme guide says otherwise, follow it.
Do I need a separate front page for each course?
Yes. Each course is evaluated separately, so each course’s answers should carry their own front page.
Where do I find my study centre code?
On your IGNOU ID card and on the student portal (Samarth). Our student portal guide shows where.
Will the PDF fit A4 paper?
Yes. The generator builds each page at A4 size (210 × 297 mm). Print at 100% or “Actual size”, not “Fit to page”.
The download does not start on my phone. What should I do?
Some phone browsers block downloads from in-app browsers. Open the page in Chrome or Safari, or tap Print and choose “Save as PDF”.
